Coach’s Goal Keep of the Night: April 6th, 2017

Thursday is here NHL DFS’rs,

If you are just discovering this article, congratulations! You are about to read the most accurate, concise, logical, and awesome NHL DFS article you will ever read. Those of you who are back again, welcome back, I know you are still smiling about last night. We played Braden Holtby of the Washington Capitals against the New York Rangers. Just like I thought ownership would be driven down just because he was playing New York. Like I mentioned yesterday, the Rangers would not be the same team without some of their key players in uniform. Washington got themselves a big 2-0 win at the Verizon Center. Holtby was excellent stopping 24 shots and getting us the 8-point shutout bonus.

It’s Wednesday’s #GoalKeepoftheNight NHL DFS’rs,

Last night we went with a late night hammer and we got exactly what we needed with Marty Jones of the San Jose Sharks. Just as suspected the Sharks recent struggles kept ownership low and we were able to get Jones at 30% in cash and 20% in GPPs. We laughed all the way to the bank with Jones’s near shutout effort with 33 saves and the ever important 12 point bonus for a total of 34.4 FDP.

It’s Tuesday NHL DFS’rs,

What a weird night in NHL DFS last night. I thought ownership’s were very odd last night, especially at defensiveman. Quite frankly that went for every position. 128 was the cash line in the big double up and if you had some Detroit exposure you did very well. Like I mentioned the style of hockey they are playing turns into goals both ways. That is exactly what happened last night as they defeated Ottawa 5-4.

We went with Frederik Andersen of the Toronto Maple Leafs last night. It went just how I thought it would, Anderson would get the win and Toronto would score multiple goals on Robin Lehner playing on a back to back. Andersen did allow two goals which hurt his total but he ended his night with 20 FDP. Depending on your lineup construction Andersen did more than enough last night and was a good base for your lineups.

Welcome Back NHL DFS’rs,

April is here and that means the NHL season is winding down, but it isn’t over just yet. I took a much needed break from the grind over the weekend. After a re-charge I am ready to go for tonight and I am ready to give you the strategy for choosing tonight’s #GoalKeepoftheNight.

On Friday, We went with Jake Allen of the St. Louis Blues for the 5th time since March 18th. He and the Blues were in a great spot taking on the Colorado Avalanche. Surprisingly enough, they did not come away with a victory in Colorado. However, Allen was able to stop 31 pucks racking up 20.8 FDP in their OT loss.

It’s Thursday NHL DFS’rs,

What a night I had last night! I was able to take down a couple GPPs, almost won another and hit cash games like it was no tomorrow. As I have said before, it all starts with your goalie. If your goalie has a bad night, chances are you will too. Of course there are exceptions to every rule, but in general if you miss on your goalie in NHL DFS you are going to miss the cash line too. Fortunately for you, your in the right place because this is where you come to ensure you play the right goaltender on any given night.

I posted my lineup from last night to give an example of why roster construction needs to begin at the goalie position. Yes, Corey Crawford scored more raw FDP but he did so at a higher price, which made roster construction more difficult. With Crawford in this line it would have been difficult to fit in both defensivemen that I wanted in Pietrangelo and Shattenkirk.

It turned out that only one side of the Penguins-Blackhawks game would erupt, but I had a good feeling goals would be scored a plenty in that contest. If you played Corey Crawford good for you, but I think the players who locked in Crawford were only doing so to be contrarian as he was around the same ownership as Marc-Andre Fleury.

Our guys came through again. Both Carter Hutton and last night’s #GoalKeepoftheNight Phillipp Grubauer came through and brought home the W. Interestingly enough, for the second night in a row, my two suggestions scored the exact same amount of FDP. At least we are consistent.

Welcome to Wednesday NHL DFS’rs,

There was a few surprises last night but for the most part what transpired was expected. The late night hammer between the Rangers-Sharks was a high scoring affair and if you had some exposure to the skaters you probably did well last night. I stacked the Minnesota-Washington game in GPPs and that paid dividends for me last night.

My suggestions last night were on point again, as Cam Talbot was a low owned option that came through big time for those who played him. Talbot scored 35.2 FDP and was stellar leading the Oilers to a 2-1 victory. Oddly enough our main man last night also scored 35.2 FDP as he felt the “bern” leading his Anaheim Quackers to a 4-1 victory over the Canucks. How was he under 20% in cash games last night?

It’s Tuesday NHL DFS’rs,

What a crazy night of NHL DFS we had last night! Cash lines were at all time highs as we had all 6 games have more than 4 goals scored in them, with the Blackhawks-Lightning game reaching 9 goals and the Red Wings-Hurricanes game reaching 7 goals. Speaking of that game I remember telling you last night that Mr. Ed Lack was a trap, and my advice was to stay away! I hope you did that because the ole Lack attack lost the game and only compiled 2.4 FDP. I also advised against goaltenders in the Panthers-Sabres game, if you got cute you lost. James Reimer ended up with a negative outing with -1.6 FDP.

If you played either one of my suggestions last night you fared well. Brian Elliot brought home the W for the Flames and racked up 23.2 FDP.  We will take that all day every day right to the bank. The guy you really wanted in your lineups was of course the #GoalKeepoftheNight for March 27th Jake Allen. He and the Blues did not disappoint getting us 24.8 FDP.

Back to the grind on Monday NHL DFS’rs,

Hope you had a great weekend and are excited to get back to our normal Monday through Friday routines in DFS. Last Friday we went with goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury. We liked the savings and the matchup seemed like it was the best on the slate. The Islanders peppered Fleury all night long as he allowed 3 goals. The good news is he played fairly well and had 43 saves which accumulated 34.4 FDP. Taking 12 away for the 3 goals allowed and he got us a respectable 22.4 FDP. Not what we were expecting but it was good enough for us to cash on Friday.
